Wwise is the audio middleware used by many Unreal Engine games. If your game's Community SDK or Unreal project depends on Wwise, you'll need to install the matching Wwise plugin before opening the project.
Download Wwise from the official Audiokinetic website:
Be sure to download the exact version required by your game's documentation. Different versions of Wwise are not generally compatible with each other.
If prompted, sign in or create a free Audiokinetic account before downloading.
Run the Wwise Launcher installer and complete the installation.
Open the Wwise Launcher, then install the required version of Wwise specified by your game's documentation.
During installation, ensure that the Unreal Engine Integration component is selected if it is available.
Once Wwise has been installed, install the matching Unreal Engine integration if it was not installed automatically.
If your Community SDK includes a Plugins folder containing the Wwise plugin, simply copy the provided Wwise plugin folder into your project's Plugins directory.
For example:
MyProject/
└── Plugins/
└── Wwise/
Some projects may instead require you to generate the integration directly through the Wwise Launcher. Always follow your game's documentation if specific instructions are provided.
Open your Unreal Engine project.
If Wwise has been installed correctly:
Verify that you've installed the correct version of Wwise and copied the plugin into the project's Plugins folder if required.
Ensure the installed Wwise version matches the version required by the project. Mismatched versions commonly cause startup errors.
You can manually specify your Unreal Engine installation from the Wwise Launcher settings if automatic detection fails.
